Background:
The Public Information Center of World Bank Timor-Leste offers to the general public a range of facilities and services that would stimulate development thinking, provide access to the latest knowledge and information available worldwide. The center provides a range of integrated functions and services chosen to promote information exchange cooperation and approach to development. The Public Information Center includes a Reference Library, free publications distribution, InfoStations giving access to Internet and CD-ROMs.
General Description: The Public Information Assistant’s main accountability is to manage the operation of the Public Information Center/library located in World Bank Timor-Leste Office.
Summary of Major Job Accountabilities:
- Manage and maintain the Country Office's Public Information Center (PIC) within the WB Timor-Leste premises in accordance with the Bank’s standard procedures and guidelines.
- Acquire, register, maintain control and distribute the physical collection of all released documents and of a current library of Bank and Government publications.
- Respond to routine and non-routine information inquiries. Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of information products and services within and outside the Bank.
- Maintain contacts with both national and international media to share Bank’s development information with the public.
- Provide ongoing liaison between the PIC Unit, World Bank Library services around the world.
Work requires frequent interaction with the following:
- PIC Unit, InfoShop, Country Library Unit, Country Directors, Regional Management, External Affairs, counterpart public information staff in other countries and regions.
- Depository and regional libraries, World Bank distributors, WB Office of the Publisher.
- Local Media, Academics, NGOs, Businesses, and other segments of local Civil Society
Skills:
- Experience in handling document/book distribution and in the design and delivery of other information dissemination activities.
- Excellent oral and written communications capabilities in English, Tetum, Bahasa Indonesia and/or Portuguese; strong organizational, research / analytical and presentation skills.
- Ability to prepare presentation materials using various software packages with minimum guidance
- Strong inter-personal skills and commitment to work in a team oriented, multi-cultural environment.
- Proven conceptual, analytical skills, ability to identify issues, formulate options and make recommendations
- Strong planning, organization and time management skills to function in a team and contribute towards a common goal.
- Strong client focus with flexible and creative approach to problem solving. Sound judgment and ability to evaluate clients information needs, suggest innovative approaches and follow up on detailed implementation.
- Knowledge of social, political and development issues in Timor-Leste.
Minimum Education/Experience
- Minimum Education: HS
- Minimum Years of Relevant Experience: 4 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
