Ba Futuru Development Manager Training Coordinator Deadline 30 September 2008

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER AND TRAINING COORDINATOR POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The vision of NGO Ba Futuru, established in 2004, is to transform mistrust and violence into peace and self-directed growth by supporting the people of Timor-Leste to create a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities. Ba Futuru's mission is to contribute to peace-building and sustainable human development by facilitating the psychosocial recovery of conflict-affected, vulnerable and at-risk children and youth. We seek to achieve this by developing the knowledge, skills and values of community leaders, young people and their carers in the areas of human rights, children’s rights, child protection and non-violent conflict transformation. Ba Futuru’s activities are founded on the principles of mutual learning, capacity development, artistic self-expression and the rights of the child.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The national Development Manager and Training Coordinator works collaboratively with Ba Futuru’s Management Team to ensure that Ba Futuru has adequate resources to fulfill its mission. Primary responsibilities of this position include program development, implementation and fundraising. She/he will be responsible for training coordination, staff management and office administration. This position is full-time (40 hours/week), and reports to Ba Futuru’s Management Team. Compensation will be between $500 and $800 per month, with generous annual leave, depending on experience. The initial contract will be for 3 months, with the possibility for extension thereafter.

Specific responsibilities include:

Project Management
o Work with the Management Team to design, direct, and implement projects.
o Proposal development and fundraising.
o Project development and oversight of implementation.
o Monitor programming and access results through indicators

Fundraising and Donor Development
o Development of good working relationships with funding agencies and partner organizations.
o Support all aspects of donor development, including supporting Board, staff and volunteer efforts to build individual and corporate donor relationships.
o Lead organizational donor management processes, including tracking and acknowledging donations, updating donor database, donor communications, and donor appreciation.
o Create monthly fundraising reports and other reports as needed.

Organizational
o Collaborate with staff members to produce Ba Futuru communications, such as newsletters, press releases, website, ad hoc brochures, flyers, etc.
o Work with Management Team to select new staff and to manage current staff.
o Participate in Ba Futuru community events and programs, represent Ba Futuru at outreach events, and participate in trainings, as time permits.
o Participate in evaluation and review of activities and procedures.
o Provide organizational development support to the Management Team.

Background and Experience

o Bachelor’s Degree essential, Master’s Degree preferred
o Overseas education in English speaking country preferred
o Experience in formal or informal education
o Project or program development and management experience
o Exposure to non-governmental organizations in Timor-Leste
o Experience liaising with government officials and donor agencies
o Experience managing large and diverse teams, and/or community organizing experience
o Experience with donor development

Skills/Knowledge

o Strong analytical skills
o Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
o Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively
o Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
o Ability to troubleshoot, improvise and think strategically and creatively

FINANCE OFFICER POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Primary responsibilities of this position include processing payments, creating invoices, performing payroll and developing sound finance policies and procedures. This position is full-time (40 hours/week), and reports to Ba Futuru’s Management Team. Compensation will be between $400 and $600 per month, with generous annual leave, depending on experience.

o Experience in finance management (MYOB experience preferred)
o Exposure to non-governmental organizations in Timor-Leste
o Experience in making financial reports for management and donors

JICA Study Assistant Deadline 4 October 2008

We, NK (Nippon Koei) Team for JICA Study of the Community-based Watershed Management, are looking for persons who assist our study from October 2008. Minimum requirement

Selection Criteria


f. Academic background/working experience in rural development, forestry, agriculture and socio-economics.


Tasks to be assigned

Major tasks are to:

i) assist the JICA Study Team and the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF)in monitoring the implementation of the following types of community-based projects:

- Promotion of tree planting

- Promotion of vegetable farming

- Rehabilitation of aged coffee plantations

- Promotion of agroforestry and soil conservation measures

- Income generation of women

- Promotion of proper upland farming with introduction of new seeds

ii) assist the JICA Study Team in the collection, analysis, and translation of data/information/ documents;

iii) support the JICA Study Team in implementation of public awareness raising activities at the community level

iv) help the staff of MAF to prepare monitoring reports;

v) provide technical assistance to a/ local NGO/s and local communities who implement the community-based projects;

vi) function as a liaison office between the JICA Study Team and the MAF or the Study Team and local NGO/s when the JICA Study Team is outside the country; and

vii) communicate with the Study Team in writing via e-mail or fax.


Others

a. Salary will be offered in accordance with qualification of an applicant.

b. Initial contract is for around 3 months from October 2008 to January 2009 after a probationary period of one week.

c. The contract can be extended based on the mutual agreement up to December 2009.

d Office is located in Dili.
