POST TITLE: Public Information Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Public Information Assistant will function as part of the Baucau-based regional CPIO team - covering the districts of Baucau, Lautem, Manatuto, and Viqueque - to share public information materials, gather information and opinions from the districts, and provide multimedia coverage of events of interest to send to CPIO Dili. Staff member will be required to travel often to above districts to share information with local government, NGOs, UN Agencies and other civil society partners; to keep accurate records of distribution and dissemination of materials, including distribution by partners; and to summarise community feedback from areas to which they travel.
Using knowledge and perspective of life in the above districts, staff member will contribute ideas and suggestions to the development stage of UN information campaigns, and take part in evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of these campaigns. Staff member will assist in planning and organizing community outreach meetings, films screenings and other special events to share information with the public and community leaders; as well supporting office tasks such as maintaining contact lists, managing files and documents, and other administrative tasks. Additional tasks will include facilitating access for visiting journalists to the above districts, and any other requirements as directed by the CPIO Outreach Coordinator from Dili.

Planning and Organizing – Ability to plan work of unit and manage conflicting priorities; accurately judges the amount of time and resources needed to accomplish a task and monitors progress against deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some technical training in media, public relations or related field of study and work experience as outlined above; Good written and spoken English. Experience: A minimum of four (4) years relevant working experience is required; Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; Ability to work as part of a team and under pressure. Languages: Spoken and written English; Portuguese and Bahasa Indonesian desirable.
