Timor Aid is an East Timorese non government aid organization providing relief, reconstruction and development assistance for Timor

Closing date: 05 Mar 2010

Location: Timor-Leste - Dili (with frequent travel to rural districts)

Summary

The Weaving Advisor will be responsible for providing advice on marketability improvement of local textile products weaved by the women participating in the project implemented in three rural districts (Bobonaro, Covalima and Oecusse) by Timor Aid, a national Timorese NGO, in partnership with Fundeso, a Spanish NGO. The Weaving Advisor will be based in Dili, but must be able to spend as much time as needed in the district project sites. The Weaving Advisor will coach the Weaving Manager and report to the Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities
  • Advise weavers on quality improvement of the local textile products;
  • Advise weavers on ways to meet buyers' preferences;
  • Identify local marketing opportunities;
  • Provide guidance to the weaving project staff about improvement of the weaving designs, quality and process - and about business and marketing opportunities;
  • Network with other organizations working in the area of traditional weaving, locally and internationally;
  • Together with another Timor Aid staff, update and maintain a database of Tais (Timorese textiles) collection;
  • Develop a weaving catalogue and other IEC material starting from the data collected by the staff;
  • Attend project meetings;
  • Submit assigment reports to the program coordinator;
  • Support the project manager for the quarterly progress reports;
  • Conduct other reasonable tasks as required by Timor Aid.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in any relevant field;
  • At least two years of work experience in traditional textile production and marketing of similar products;
  • Ability to work with graphic design;
  • Fluent in English; working knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia and/or Tetun will be an asset;
  • Computer literacy in MS Office package;
  • Good communication skills.
