JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
The National Investigators, as a member of a regional team, will investigate serious crimes cases occurred in particular district.
Job Description:
As a member of a Regional Team will investigate serious crimes cases in particular district. In particular the Incumbent will:
  • Participate in preparation of investigation plans in consultation with other members of a team;
  • Conduct criminal investigations by interviewing and taking statement of victims, witnesses and suspects, visiting crime scenes, collecting other evidence, etc.
  • Assist the Forensic team in conducting exhumations and repatriation of human remains to their family.
  • Brief the Legal Officer and Coordination Officer on work done;
  • Prepare weekly reports for the Legal Officer;
  • Deliver regularly information necessary for updating the SCIT database.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Senior Investigator.

  • Communications – Good oral and written communication and drafting skills;
  • Professionalism – Demonstrated in-depth understanding and expertise in the field of criminal investigations; experience in working under pressure; strong analytical skills with regard to complex investigations.
  • Technological Awareness - Computer skills, including in word processing; ability to use relevant software applications, in particular information databases, internet and intranet services, library sources etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Law, preferably Criminal Law
  • Police academy training and experience in related areas;
  • At least 2 years of experience in conducting criminal investigations;
  • Previous experience in investigating crimes against humanity and/or working for the former Serious Crimes Unit will be a significant advantage;
  • Fluency in oral and written Tetum, good knowledge of English; knowledge of Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia and/or local languages will be an asset.
